Project: ARUM

The "ARUM" project captures the journey of overcoming past wounds and evolving into a warrior.Through the symbol of a knight, it visually represents Andre’s inner conflicts and transformation, illustrating his path toward becoming his ideal self.

Background

This project began with Andre’s wounds. The words he wanted in the lettering carried deep scars from the past, but his decision to make the knight the central image reflected his determination to overcome those wounds and become a warrior.

I focused on ensuring he could stand strong in an ever-changing world, visually expressing his resilience and mindset. In the first session, which lasted 14 hours, I depicted his internal battles and triumphs through the form of a knight.

When we met again, we expanded the worldbuilding of his story.Using the entire arm as a canvas, I incorporated various elements that preserved his identity while illustrating transformation and growth.Through this process, I hoped that once his inner battle ended, he would eventually find peace, symbolized by a crane.

Artist's Perspective

This project was not just about creating an image but about capturing the ideal existence Andre sought and the personal evolution he underwent.

Andre wanted a clearer understanding of the meaning behind the piece, so I introduced him to one of the most profound words in the Korean language: "ARUM."

The word "ARUM" is commonly used to describe beauty in an aesthetic sense, but its true meaning conveys the idea that existence itself is inherently complete.

This embodies the message that "I am complete as I am,"representing an adaptable, resilient being who can shift and transform in response to challenges.

Design Concept

  • Theme: Overcoming wounds and transforming into a warrior

  • Main Symbol: The Knight

  • Style: Dark fantasy, emphasizing resilience and adaptability

  • Worldbuilding Expansion:

    • First session: Depicting the knight as a representation of inner wounds and overcoming struggles

    • Second session: Expanding the design across the entire arm to symbolize growth and transformation

  • Symbolic Elements:

    • Crane: A representation of finding peace after overcoming inner turmoil

    • Korean word "ARUM": A philosophical element signifying completeness in one’s existence

    • A stance beyond the digital world: Readiness to embrace change and evolve in an ever-shifting reality

This piece embodies Andre’s identity and his direction for the future.

Through this project, I hoped that Andre would pave his own path, conquer his inner struggles, and ultimately find serenity. It was an incredibly meaningful experience to share his story and emotions through this process, and I am deeply grateful to Andre for allowing me to be part of this journey.

I look forward to meeting more people with whom I can share experiences, explore new perspectives, and work together to find meaningful solutions.
